Overview

The BigTreeTech Octopus V1.1 is a feature-rich 32-bit 3D printer control board built around the STM32F446ZET6 ARM Cortex-M4 MCU running at 180MHz. It is one of the most popular boards for building Voron printers and other custom CoreXY machines, offering 8 stepper driver sockets with 9 total motor outputs (dual Z-axis support built in). Each driver socket supports SPI, UART, and STEP/DIR modes selectable via onboard jumpers.

The board provides extensive power management with onboard 12V (4A), 5V (8A), and 3.3V (1A) regulators, and accepts DC 12V or 24V input. Up to 6 PWM-controlled fans and 2 always-on fans are available, each individually switchable between VIN, 12V, and 5V rails. A USB Type-C port handles communication and firmware updates, while an RJ11 CAN bus interface and a reserved WiFi module header (ESP8266 compatible) expand connectivity options.

Additional features include BLTouch support, filament runout sensor inputs, power loss recovery, auto power-off, PT100 thermistor interface (optional), 5 temperature sensor inputs, an onboard AT24C32 EEPROM, and USB drive support. The board is fully open source with schematics, PCB layout, and firmware all available on GitHub. It is compatible with both Marlin and Klipper firmware and is the go-to mainboard for Voron 2.4 builds.
