## Description

## Overview

The ESP32-S2 Kaluga Dev Kit is Espressif's comprehensive multimedia evaluation platform for the ESP32-S2, designed specifically to demonstrate the chip's human-computer interaction capabilities. Unlike a simple breakout board, the Kaluga arrives as a complete kit with four purpose-built extension boards that snap onto the main unit, making it one of the most feature-rich ESP32-S2 development environments available.

The main board is built around the ESP32-S2-WROVER module featuring the single-core Xtensa LX7 at 240MHz, 2MB of PSRAM, and a built-in PCB antenna for 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. A Micro-USB connector connected to a CP210x USB-to-UART bridge handles programming, while the native USB pins (GPIO19/20) can be wired via headers for USB device functionality. The four extension boards — ESP-LyraT-8311A audio player, ESP-LyraP-TouchA 14-pad capacitive touch panel, ESP-LyraP-LCD32 3.2-inch LCD display, and ESP-LyraP-CAM camera module — illustrate the range of applications enabled by the ESP32-S2's LCD interface, camera interface, capacitive touch controller, and I2S audio.

The Kaluga kit is compatible with ESP-IDF v4.2 and later. Espressif provides extensive example code and documentation for each extension board. Note that the kit was discontinued and replaced by simpler evaluation boards like the Saola 1R; however, it remains valuable as a reference for designers building multimedia ESP32-S2 products.

Hardware design files including schematics and PCB layouts for the main board and all extension boards are published by Espressif in the official ESP-IDF Hardware Reference repository.
