Overview
The Espressif ESP-Matter SDK is the official Matter development framework for the ESP32 family of SoCs. Built on top of the open-source ConnectedHomeIP (Project CHIP) SDK, it provides simplified C/C++ APIs, pre-integrated peripherals, security/manufacturing utilities, and exhaustive documentation tailored for Espressif hardware.
The SDK supports Matter specification versions 1.0 through 1.5 (with 1.6 in development), and targets ESP32-C6, ESP32-H2, ESP32-S3, ESP32-C3, and other ESP32 variants. Matter-over-Thread is supported on ESP32-C6 and ESP32-H2 (IEEE 802.15.4 capable), while Matter-over-WiFi runs on the full ESP32 family.
Production references include examples for lights, plugs, switches, sensors, locks, thermostats, and bridges. The SDK integrates with the ESP Launchpad for quick cloud flashing and includes a Data Model Validator tool for compliance checking.
