## Description

## Overview

The ESP32-S2-WROVER-I is the external-antenna variant of Espressif's ESP32-S2-WROVER module. It is electrically identical to the standard WROVER — same ESP32-S2 single-core Xtensa LX7 at 240MHz, 4MB Flash, 2MB PSRAM, and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi — but replaces the built-in PCB antenna with a uFL (U.FL / IPEX) connector, allowing designers to attach any compatible 2.4GHz external antenna for increased range or to place the antenna outside an enclosure.

Like the standard WROVER, this is a bare module intended for integration onto a custom PCB, not a standalone development board. The 18×31×3.3mm metal-shielded package uses castellated SMD pads and requires external power regulation, decoupling, and programming circuitry. The uFL connector occupies the same footprint as the PCB antenna on the standard module, and the two variants are pin-compatible.

The ESP32-S2 SoC includes native USB 1.1 OTG on GPIO19/20, enabling CDC, HID, DFU, and MIDI device classes without an external USB bridge. The peripheral set covers SPI, I2C, UART, I2S, LCD parallel interface, camera interface, IR, touch sensors, ADC, and DAC. Espressif provides detailed PCB design guidelines specifying keep-out areas around the uFL connector and module.

This module is particularly useful in metal enclosures, dense PCB assemblies, or any deployment where a PCB trace antenna would be degraded by nearby conductors. Espressif publishes the full module datasheet and reference design files.
