Overview

The Heltec Wireless Tracker V2 is a compact, feature-rich development board designed for GPS tracking and LoRa mesh networking applications. Built around the ESP32-S3FN8 dual-core MCU, it integrates an SX1262 LoRa transceiver with a KCT8103L RF front-end module that delivers up to 28dBm transmit power for extended range, alongside the Unicore UC6580 dual-frequency GNSS receiver supporting GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, NAVIC, and QZSS constellations with sub-1.5m positioning accuracy.

The board features a 0.96-inch 160x80 TFT display driven by an ST7735S controller, dual SH1.25 connectors for lithium battery and solar panel, and integrated battery management via the CN3165 charger IC with overcharge protection and automatic USB/battery switching. Its LDS antenna design for both GNSS and 2.4GHz WiFi/BLE keeps the physical footprint remarkably small at just 52 x 25.4mm, while an IPEX 1.0 connector provides the option for an external LoRa antenna.

Firmware support is extensive, with official compatibility for Meshtastic, MeshCore, and LoRaWAN, plus full Arduino, ESP-IDF, PlatformIO, and MicroPython development. The board exposes dual 18-pin headers with 7 ADC channels, 7 touch inputs, 3 UARTs, 2 I2C buses, and 2 SPI buses, making it suitable for custom sensor integrations beyond its primary tracking and messaging use cases. Community adoption is strong, with ESPHome configurations available for Home Assistant integration and active Meshtastic firmware support.
