Overview
The Heltec Wireless Paper is a compact E-Ink development board built around the ESP32-S3FN8 microcontroller and Semtech SX1262 LoRa transceiver. It combines a 2.13-inch black-and-white e-paper display (250x122 pixels) with triple wireless connectivity — WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0, and LoRa — in a pocket-sized 72x30mm form factor. The e-paper display retains its content for up to 180 days without power, making it ideal for applications where static information needs to persist.
Powered via USB Type-C or a lithium battery (via SH1.25 connector), the Wireless Paper draws just 20 microamps in deep sleep mode, enabling months of battery-powered operation for remote deployments. The board includes a Vext power control pin (GPIO45) that lets firmware completely shut off the display to further reduce power consumption.
The Wireless Paper has strong community support across multiple firmware platforms. It is officially supported by Meshtastic for off-grid LoRa mesh networking, works with the Arduino framework via the Heltec ESP32 library, supports PlatformIO and ESP-IDF development, and has community-contributed ESPHome configurations for Home Assistant integration. The board ships with a LoRa antenna, transparent acrylic protection plate, and SH1.25 battery connector, ready for immediate prototyping.
