## Description

## Overview

The NanoPi R4S is a dedicated router-class SBC from FriendlyElec based on the hexa-core Rockchip RK3399 processor. With dual Gigabit Ethernet ports — one connected via USB 3.0 internally and one via the native PCIe Ethernet — it provides full line-rate switching for home networking, VPN routing, and gateway tasks.

Available in 1GB and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM configurations, the R4S is popular in the OpenWRT and self-hosting communities as an affordable yet powerful alternative to commercial router hardware. It ships with 16GB of eMMC storage for the OS and also includes a microSD card slot for additional storage flexibility. There is no onboard Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, which keeps interference low and power draw minimal.

Armbian provides excellent support for the R4S with both mainline and legacy kernel options. Its compact, fanless enclosure (available from FriendlyElec) makes it suitable for deployment in home racks and embedded network applications running on a standard 12V DC supply.
