Overview

The BeaglePlay is a feature-rich single-board computer from the BeagleBoard.org Foundation, centered around the Texas Instruments AM625 SoC — a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor with an integrated Cortex-M4F real-time core and the PRU-ICSS programmable real-time subsystem. With 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 16GB of eMMC flash storage, it provides a solid base for running full Linux distributions including Armbian and the official Debian-based BeagleBoard image.

What sets the BeaglePlay apart is its exceptional wireless connectivity suite: it integrates WiFi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 5.0, and a sub-GHz 802.15.4 radio in one board, making it ideal for IoT gateway and home automation hub applications. A Gigabit Ethernet port rounds out the networking options, while a mikroBUS connector and 40-pin Raspberry Pi-compatible header enable rapid prototyping with a wide ecosystem of Click boards and HATs.

The BeaglePlay is particularly well-suited for smart home controllers, IoT edge gateways, and embedded Linux applications where both WiFi/BT connectivity and low-power sub-GHz mesh networking (such as Thread or Zigbee) are needed on a single compact board. Its open hardware design and TI's industrial-grade AM625 platform ensure long-term availability and strong software support.
