Pycom LoPy
The Pycom LoPy is a triple-network IoT development board built around the ESP32 SoC. It combines WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth BLE 4.2, and LoRa (via the Semtech SX1272) into a single compact module — making it one of the most capable wireless prototyping platforms available for MicroPython developers.
Key Features
- Triple connectivity: WiFi, BLE, and LoRa on a single board
- ESP32 dual-core Xtensa LX6 @ 240MHz with 520KB SRAM and 4MB flash
- LoRa SX1272: supports 868 MHz (EU) and 915 MHz (US) ISM bands
- MicroPython runtime built-in — program in Python over REPL or IDE
- Compatible with the Pycom Expansion Board for easy prototyping (USB, SD card, Grove connectors)
- U.FL/IPEX antenna connector for external LoRa antenna
Pin Naming
Pycom uses a P-pin naming scheme (P0–P21) that maps to ESP32 GPIO numbers. P12–P15 are input-only ADC pins (GPIO34/35/36/39).
Use Cases
Ideal for LoRa mesh networks, remote sensor nodes, asset tracking, and low-power environmental monitoring where long-range wireless communication is required alongside WiFi/BLE for local connectivity.
Use Cases
4IoT
Internet of Things applications including connected sensors, actuators, and smart devices that communicate over WiFi, BLE, LoRa, or other wireless protocols.
LoRa Mesh Networking
Building off-grid mesh communication networks using LoRa radio for text messaging, location sharing, and sensor data relay without cellular or internet infrastructure.
Environmental Monitoring
Monitoring environmental conditions like temperature, humidity, air quality, and weather data using remote sensors.
Asset Tracking
Tracking the location and status of physical assets like vehicles, packages, and equipment.
