Overview

The CA2RXU LoRa APRS Tracker is one of the most feature-complete open-source APRS tracker firmwares available for ESP32-based boards. Built specifically for devices like the LILYGO T-Beam, it turns the board's integrated GPS, LoRa radio, and OLED display into a capable two-way APRS station — transmitting your position and receiving messages from the global APRS network.

How It Works

The firmware uses the T-Beam's SX1262 or SX1268 LoRa module to transmit compressed APRS position beacons, and simultaneously listens for incoming packets from nearby trackers and iGates. A full on-device menu system lets you compose and reply to APRS messages, check received packets, configure your callsign and symbol, and adjust radio parameters — all from the OLED display without needing a PC.

Key Features

The tracker supports smart beaconing (transmit rate adjusts based on speed and direction change), Bluetooth TNC mode for pairing with Android APRSDroid or iOS apps, weather telemetry via BME280/BME680 sensors, battery voltage reporting encoded in APRS telemetry, and Winlink email access through APRSLink. Multiple regional frequency presets are included for 433 MHz, 868 MHz, and 915 MHz bands. The project supports LILYGO T-Beam V1.2 and T-Beam Supreme V3 alongside several Heltec and other ESP32 LoRa boards.
