TTGO T-Beam TTN LoRaWAN GPS Mapper

A GPS tracker that uploads location data to The Things Network and TTN Mapper, measuring LoRaWAN gateway signal strength and coverage using the TTGO T-Beam.

Boards:ESP32
Firmware:LoRaWAN stackPlatformIO
Use Cases:GPS TrackingLoRa & WANIoT Prototyping

Overview

This project turns the TTGO T-Beam (ESP32 + LoRa + GPS) into a LoRaWAN node that continuously acquires GPS fixes and uploads position data to The Things Network (TTN). The data feeds directly into TTN Mapper, a community-maintained service that maps LoRaWAN gateway coverage worldwide. A companion web app — TTN Tracker — can display your moving location on a real-time map on any phone or browser.

Hardware

The T-Beam provides everything needed in one package: an ESP32 microcontroller, SX1276 LoRa radio (US 915 MHz or EU 868 MHz), GPS module, SSD1306 OLED display, and 18650 battery holder. No external components are required for basic operation.

Setup

The project uses PlatformIO for building and flashing. After configuring your TTN Application credentials (OTAA or ABP) in credentials.h and selecting the correct board revision (Rev0 or Rev1), flash the firmware. Once a GPS fix is acquired, the device transmits encoded latitude, longitude, altitude, HDOP, and satellite count to TTN every few minutes. Add the included decoder function to your TTN Application for human-readable payload.
