TTGO T-Beam LoRa APRS Tracker

A configurable LoRa APRS tracker running on the TTGO T-Beam, supporting smart beaconing, weather station mode, digipeater functionality, and over-the-air setup via a rotary encoder display.

Boards:ESP32
Firmware:Arduino
Use Cases:Ham RadioGPS TrackingEnvironmental Monitoring

Overview

This project implements a complete LoRa APRS tracker on the TTGO T-Beam, using the onboard LoRa radio to transmit APRS position packets directly over RF (no internet required). It was developed by OE3CJB and supports both the Rev0.7 and Rev1.0 T-Beam hardware revisions, with full AXP192 power management on the newer boards.

Operating Modes

Four modes are selectable via button press: TRACKER (normal GPS position beaconing), WX&TRACKER (alternates between position and weather packets), WX-MOVE (weather with live GPS position), and WX-FIXED (fixed-position weather station for deployments without GPS signal). Modes are indicated by LED blink count, allowing field operation without a display.

Features

Smart beaconing adjusts transmission rate based on movement speed (0–50 km/h). Supported temperature sensors include DHT22, DS18B20, and BME280. Compressed APRS packet format reduces air time. The callsign can be set at first boot via a guided setup routine or pre-configured in the header file. FX.25 error correction is not included, but the firmware stays very lean and easy to adapt.
