LILYGO T-Higrow ESPHome Plant Sensor
ESPHome firmware for the LILYGO T-Higrow WiFi plant sensor that monitors soil moisture, fertilizer levels, light (lux), temperature, and humidity — with direct Home Assistant integration via a beautiful flower dashboard card.
Overview
This open-source ESPHome configuration turns the LILYGO T-Higrow into a fully-featured smart plant sensor that integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant. The project provides a modular YAML-based firmware that can be flashed directly from a web browser without needing to install any software.
Features
The firmware monitors five key plant health metrics in real time: soil humidity, soil fertilizer (conductivity), ambient light in lux, air temperature, and air humidity. After adding the device to Home Assistant via the ESPHome integration, all sensor readings appear automatically as entities.
Optional modules can be enabled depending on your hardware: battery voltage monitoring for battery-powered deployments, Bluetooth proxy to extend Home Assistant's BLE reach, BME280 environmental sensor support, deep sleep for battery optimization, and a water pump controller. The project also supports the OpenPlantBook API and the lovelace-flower-card for rich per-plant dashboards showing optimal care thresholds.
Getting Started
Installation is beginner-friendly — open Chrome, Edge, or Opera, navigate to the project's web installer page, plug in your T-Higrow via USB, and follow the on-screen instructions. For advanced users, the modular YAML structure makes it straightforward to customize individual sensor calibration, sleep intervals, and optional features by editing the LILYGO-T-Higrow-ESP32.yaml file.
