Overview

The TrackSenger is a compact DIY Meshtastic communicator designed by Peter "Bobricius" Misenko. Built around the Heltec Wireless Tracker module, it combines ESP32-S3, SX1262 LoRa transceiver, and GPS into a handheld messenger with a push-button keyboard for text-based mesh communication.

Hardware

The TrackSenger uses a multi-layer PCB design where the Heltec Tracker's built-in 0.96" TFT display is exposed through a window in the upper PCB layer. The upper board provides labels for 36 tactile switches arranged as a QWERTY keyboard. Key components:

  • Core module: Heltec Wireless Tracker (ESP32-S3 + SX1262 + GPS)
  • Input: 36 tactile switches (1N force, 7mm height recommended)
  • Audio: Piezo beeper for notifications
  • Power: Optional 18650 battery holder with space for alternative batteries
  • Connectivity: Keyboard disconnects via 12-pin connector for modularity

Assembly

Solder the tactile switches and female headers onto the PCB, connect the Heltec Tracker module, and flash firmware using the Meshtastic WebFlasher at flasher.meshtastic.org — select "TrackSenger" as the device profile.

Firmware

The TrackSenger runs Meshtastic firmware natively and is listed as an official device profile in the Meshtastic WebFlasher. Future support for the Armachat platform firmware is planned.

Availability

Available on Tindie from $9.99 (bare PCB) to $108.99 (fully assembled with Heltec Tracker board).
