Tasmota Chirp Soil Moisture Sensor Driver
Official Tasmota driver (I2cDriver33) for the Chirp / Catnip I2C soil moisture sensor. Supports auto-discovery of multiple sensors, sleep/wake control, and I2C address management on ESP8266 and ESP32.
Overview
Tasmota includes a built-in driver for the Chirp / Catnip Electronics I2C soil moisture sensor, contributed by Staars. The driver enables ESP8266 and ESP32 devices running Tasmota to read soil moisture, temperature, and light from one or more Chirp sensors over I2C.
Features
- Auto-scans the I2C bus and enumerates all connected Chirp sensors
- Supports multiple sensors with configurable I2C addresses
- Sleep and wake commands for power management
- Light sensor returns relative darkness values (0-65535)
- Syncs measurement cycle with Tasmota's TelePeriod (recommended 20s+)
