RatDeck — Reticulum Mesh Messenger on T-Deck Plus
A standalone Reticulum mesh node with encrypted LXMF messaging for the T-Deck Plus — end-to-end encrypted off-grid communication with touchscreen UI, web flasher, and no companion phone needed.
Overview
RatDeck is a standalone Reticulum mesh networking node built specifically for the LILYGO T-Deck Plus. Unlike RNode (which requires a companion computer or phone), RatDeck runs the entire Reticulum stack directly on the ESP32-S3 — including encrypted LXMF messaging, node discovery, and transport relay — with an LVGL touchscreen interface. No phone or laptop needed.
Key Features
- Standalone Operation: Full Reticulum mesh node running on-device — no companion app required
- End-to-End Encryption: Every message is encrypted using Reticulum's cryptographic identity system
- LXMF Messaging: Compatible with NomadNet, Sideband, and MeshChat users across the Reticulum network
- Multiple Identities: Create and switch between multiple cryptographic identities
- Transport Relay: Enable relay mode to extend the mesh — your T-Deck becomes an infrastructure node
- WiFi Bridge: Bridge between LoRa mesh and WiFi for internet connectivity
- Node Discovery: Automatically discover other Reticulum nodes in range
- Web Flasher: Install directly from a browser — no development tools needed
- LVGL UI: Polished touchscreen interface designed for the T-Deck Plus display
Getting Started
Visit the RatDeck web flasher and install directly to your T-Deck Plus over USB. Create your cryptographic identity on first boot. Other Reticulum users (running Sideband, NomadNet, or MeshChat) can message you over LoRa or WiFi. Enable transport relay mode to help extend the mesh.
Why This Project
RatDeck makes the Reticulum ecosystem accessible without any companion device. While Meshtastic and MeshCore dominate the LoRa mesh space, Reticulum offers superior cryptographic identity management and interoperability with desktop tools (NomadNet, MeshChat). RatDeck is the bridge that brings this powerful stack to a handheld form factor.
