LEDswarm: UWB-Coordinated LED Mesh Network
Rust firmware for Makerfabs ESP32 DW3000 that creates a UWB mesh network of LED controllers with automatic discovery, decimeter-level ranging, and coordinated lighting effects.
Overview
LEDswarm is a Rust-based firmware that turns Makerfabs ESP32 UWB DW3000 boards into a self-organizing mesh network of LED controllers. Each node uses UWB ranging for decimeter-level positioning and coordinates lighting effects based on spatial relationships.
Features
- UWB mesh networking via DW3000 for automatic device discovery and formation
- Decimeter-level ranging between nodes for position-aware lighting
- Addressable LED support for NeoPixel/SK6812 RGBW strips
- Wi-Fi hotspot capability on master nodes
- Status LED patterns indicating Discovery, Connecting, Client, and Server modes
- Game controller functionality for interactive applications
Operation Modes
- Client mode: Joins an existing network session
- Server/Master mode: Creates a new network session with Wi-Fi hotspot
Technology Stack
- Rust with ESP-IDF framework
- cargo-espflash for deployment
- Currently only supports Makerfabs DW3000 board (more boards planned)
