High-Power Meshtastic Node with LILYGO T-Beam 1W

A long-range Meshtastic mesh node built on the LILYGO T-Beam 1W, using its 1-watt LoRa power amplifier for extended coverage as a hilltop repeater or remote area relay node.

Boards:ESP32-S3
Firmware:Meshtastic
Use Cases:Mesh NetworkingLoRa & WANPortable Device

Overview

The LILYGO T-Beam 1W is an officially supported Meshtastic platform that stands out from other T-Beam variants due to its 1-watt (30 dBm) LoRa power amplifier — compared to the typical 100 mW (20 dBm) of standard LoRa nodes. Running Meshtastic firmware, this translates into significantly extended radio range, making it well-suited for use as a fixed hilltop repeater, a base node for rural mesh coverage, or a high-power solar-powered relay in remote locations.

Hardware

The board pairs an ESP32-S3 dual-core LX7 processor with 16 MB flash and 8 MB PSRAM, a GPS module for position reporting, AXP2101 power management, and the 1W LoRa radio. Available in 915 MHz (US), 868 MHz (EU), and 433 MHz variants. The AXP2101 PMU enables battery-backed solar deployments with proper charge management.

Deployment

Flash using the Meshtastic web flasher at flasher.meshtastic.org and select the T-Beam 1W board. Configure as a router or router-client node via the Meshtastic app to maximize mesh coverage. Place on an elevated structure or antenna mast for maximum range. At 1W output, local regulations regarding maximum permitted transmit power should be verified before deployment.
