ESPHome Panasonic Aquarea Heat Pump
ESPHome-based alternative firmware for the HeishaMon PCB, enabling YAML-configured Panasonic Aquarea heat pump control with native Home Assistant API integration and OTA updates.
Overview
This project provides an ESPHome YAML configuration that runs on the HeishaMon Communication PCB hardware, offering an alternative to the stock HeishaMon firmware. Since the HeishaMon PCB is essentially an ESP8266/ESP32-S3 with level-shifting circuitry, it can run ESPHome just as well.
Advantages Over Stock Firmware
- Native Home Assistant API: Uses ESPHome's native API instead of MQTT, providing automatic entity discovery and lower latency
- YAML Configuration: Declarative configuration that is easy to version control and reproduce
- OTA Updates: Seamless over-the-air firmware updates through ESPHome dashboard
- Automation Integration: Leverage ESPHome's built-in automation engine for on-device logic
- Sensor Customization: Easily rename, filter, or transform sensor readings in YAML
Features
- Heat pump status monitoring (temperatures, pressures, flow rates)
- Control commands for heating mode, cooling mode, and DHW
- Compressor and pump status tracking
- Error code reporting
- Compatible with the HeishaMon serial protocol
Requirements
- HeishaMon Communication PCB (ESP8266 or ESP32-S3 version)
- ESPHome installation (standalone or Home Assistant add-on)
- Panasonic Aquarea H, J, K, L, or M series heat pump
Getting Started
Flash the ESPHome firmware to your HeishaMon PCB using the ESPHome dashboard or command-line tools. The YAML configuration handles the serial protocol communication with the heat pump.
