Overview

The LILYGO T5 E-Paper S3 Pro is the flagship e-paper development board in the LILYGO lineup, featuring a large 4.7-inch ED047TC1 e-paper display with 16 gray levels — enabling smooth graphics and text rendering with ultra-low power consumption during display updates and zero power during static display. This makes it ideal for information dashboards, e-book readers, environmental monitors, and LoRa-connected sensor display nodes.

The SX1262 LoRa transceiver (available in 433, 868, or 915MHz) enables long-range data reception for the display, while WiFi and BLE on the ESP32-S3 provide local network connectivity. A capacitive touch interface enables interactive navigation, and the PCF8563 RTC maintains accurate timekeeping. Two battery management ICs — the BQ25896 charger and BQ27220 fuel gauge — provide precise charge state monitoring and safe charging.

A microSD card slot enables local data logging and asset storage. The board ships from multiple warehouses (China, USA, Germany) with various frequency and GPS configuration options.

Firmware Compatibility

Compatible with Arduino IDE and ESP-IDF. The GitHub repository at https://github.com/Xinyuan-LilyGO/T5S3-4.7-e-paper-PRO provides e-paper driver examples, LoRa examples, and power management code.

Flashing Guide

  1. Install the ESP32 board package in Arduino IDE 2.x or set up ESP-IDF.
  2. Connect via USB-C cable.
  3. Hold BOOT and press RESET to enter download mode if needed.
  4. Select ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 with 16MB flash and 8MB OPI PSRAM.
