Overview

The T-Display S3 Long is a distinctive development board from LILYGO featuring an unusually elongated 3.4-inch capacitive touchscreen display. The display has a 180x640 pixel resolution, making it ideal for applications requiring a tall, narrow interface such as status bars, instrument panels, or wearable-style UIs.

Powered by the ESP32-S3R8 dual-core Xtensa LX7 processor with 16MB of flash and 8MB of PSRAM, the board has ample resources for complex graphical applications. The display uses a QSPI interface and supports 565 and 666 color depths, and includes capacitive touch input.

Two hardware variants are available: the basic version (H685) and a version with a protective shell (H721 at $32.13). Both include Boot and Reset buttons, a battery switch, and support for LiPo battery operation with voltage detection on IO02.

Firmware Compatibility

The T-Display S3 Long is compatible with Arduino IDE and VS Code (with ESP-IDF or PlatformIO). The official GitHub repository (T-Display-S3-Long) provides TFT_eSPI and LVGL-based display examples.

Flashing Guide

  1. Install Arduino IDE with ESP32-S3 board support
  2. Clone the T-Display-S3-Long repository for display drivers and examples
  3. Connect via USB Type-C
  4. Select "ESP32S3 Dev Module" with appropriate flash and PSRAM settings (16MB flash, 8MB PSRAM)
  5. Upload firmware — hold Boot button if needed to enter download mode
