Overview
The Heltec HT-H7608 V2 is a WiFi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah) router and IoT gateway built around the MediaTek MT7628 SoC and Morse Micro MM6108 WiFi HaLow chipset. It operates in the sub-1 GHz band (863-870MHz or 902-928MHz depending on region), delivering long-range wireless connectivity exceeding 1 km line-of-sight while maintaining up to 32.5 Mbps physical layer data rates. The device also includes standard 2.4 GHz WiFi (802.11b/g/n) for dual-band operation.
Designed for IoT deployments where traditional WiFi falls short, the HT-H7608 supports flexible networking modes including Access Point (AP), Station (STA), Mesh Gateway, and Mesh Point configurations. This makes it suitable for agricultural monitoring, industrial automation, smart city infrastructure, remote camera systems, and network coverage extension in challenging environments. The mesh capability allows multiple units to form self-healing networks that extend coverage across large areas.
The router features both Ethernet (RJ45) and USB-C connectivity for uplink, an SMA antenna connector for the sub-GHz HaLow antenna, and a wall-mountable enclosure. Configuration is handled through a web UI accessible over WiFi or Ethernet, with OTA firmware upgrade support. The MT7628 SoC runs Linux and is compatible with OpenWrt, giving advanced users the ability to customize the network stack. With 128MB RAM and 32MB flash, there is ample room for custom applications and routing configurations.
