Overview
The LILYGO T-Camera Plus S3 ships with a comprehensive LVGL-based firmware that demonstrates the full capability of the board: camera preview on the 1.3-inch touchscreen, microphone recording, speaker playback, SD card file management, and real-time face detection. This reference firmware is the community starting point for any T-Camera Plus S3 project.
Features
The camera projection mode streams frames from the OV2640 directly to the 240×240 ST7789 display. Enabling the FACE_DETECT_IN_SCREEN macro activates the ESP32-S3's vector-accelerated face detection, overlaying bounding boxes on the display in real time at up to 50 ms per detection. The SD card integration enables recording audio clips with the digital microphone and playing them back through the MAX98357A amplifier. A simple web interface provides remote camera parameter control.
Build Details
Built with ESP-IDF (via component libraries) and LVGL for the UI. The repository is the official Xinyuan-LilyGO project with full pin mapping, schematic, and example configurations. The board's 8 MB PSRAM, 16 MB Flash, and dual-core ESP32-S3 make it capable of simultaneous camera preview, face detection, and audio processing — well-suited for smart home doorbell and indoor monitoring builds.
