Simple E-Book Reader for LILYGO T-Deck Pro

A minimal plain-text e-reader firmware for the LILYGO T-Deck Pro that reads .txt files from an SD card on the built-in e-paper display, with persistent page indexing, word wrap, and keyboard navigation.

Boards:ESP32-S3
Firmware:ArduinoPlatformIO
Use Cases:E-Paper & SignagePortable Device

Overview

This project turns the LILYGO T-Deck Pro into a comfortable e-reader for plain text files. The e-paper display is ideal for reading — easy on the eyes and visible in direct sunlight. Files are loaded from a FAT32 SD card, and page positions are saved between sessions so books open instantly at the last position.

Features

  • SD card file browser — lists all .txt files in the SD root with keyboard navigation
  • E-paper rendering — text displayed on the T-Deck Pro's e-ink panel with word-wrap at word boundaries
  • Persistent indexing — page indexes stored in an .indexes folder on the SD card; invalidated automatically if the source file changes
  • Progress tracking — shows current page, total pages, and percentage complete
  • Keyboard navigation — W/S to navigate pages, Q to return to file list, Enter to open

Controls

Key Action
W Previous page / Up in file list
S Next page / Down in file list
Enter Open selected file

Technical Details

Built with PlatformIO targeting the T-Deck Pro v1.1. Uses the GxEPD2 library for e-paper rendering and the TCA8418 I2C keyboard controller for input. Note: this project has been folded into the Meck firmware's txt-reader branch for continued development.
