RDA5807 FM Radio Receiver for T-Embed
An FM radio receiver for the LILYGO T-Embed using an RDA5807 module, controlled via the rotary encoder and displayed on the 1.9-inch TFT — leveraging the board's built-in speaker and amplifier for audio output.
Overview
This project wires an RDA5807 FM radio IC module to the LILYGO T-Embed's I2C pins and uses the board's rotary encoder to tune through FM stations. The T-Embed's 1.9-inch ST7789 TFT display shows the current frequency, signal strength, and station information, and audio plays through the onboard speaker via the built-in amplifier.
Hardware
The RDA5807 module connects via I2C (SDA → GPIO 18, SCL → GPIO 8). The T-Embed's rotary encoder and push button serve as the tuner knob and frequency confirm. The result is a self-contained FM radio with a physical dial that feels natural given the T-Embed's form factor.
Build Details
The project is an example within the PU2CLR RDA5807 Arduino Library (149 stars) — an adaptation of a Volos Projects sketch specifically documented for the T-Embed. Written in C++ Arduino with dependencies on TFT_eSPI, RotaryEncoder, FastLED, and Battery18650Stats libraries. The full wiring diagrams and pin assignments are documented in the project's GitHub Pages site. A wire antenna is required and not included with the RDA5807 module.
