ESPHome PIR Security Camera for T-Camera S3

An ESPHome configuration for the LILYGO T-Camera S3 that enables MJPEG live streaming, snapshot server, PIR motion detection, and OLED status display — all integrated natively with Home Assistant.

Boards:ESP32-S3
Firmware:ESPHomeHome Assistant
Use Cases:Security & SurveillanceHome Automation

Overview

The official LilyGo Camera Series repository provides a tested ESPHome YAML configuration for the T-Camera S3 that wires every hardware feature of the board into Home Assistant without writing a single line of C++. The configuration is a complete reference implementation for building a local-only smart home camera.

Features

The OV2640 camera streams MJPEG video on port 8080 and serves individual snapshots on port 8081, both accessible directly on the local network. The built-in hardware PIR sensor on GPIO 17 is configured as a motion binary sensor, triggering Home Assistant automations — for example, recording a snapshot to the media library or sending a mobile notification. The 0.96-inch OLED display (SSD1306, 128×64) shows status text updated every two seconds. Power management for the AXP2101 PMU is handled automatically via I2C initialization on first boot.

Build Details

Built with ESPHome's esp32_camera component, esp32_camera_web_server for streaming, and binary_sensor platform GPIO for PIR. The configuration targets the ESP32-S3 in Arduino framework mode with PSRAM enabled. It is maintained in the official Xinyuan-LilyGO/LilyGo-Cam-ESP32S3 repository and is the recommended integration path for Home Assistant users.
