Overview

This project transforms the LILYGO T5 Pro into a sleek, battery-powered smart home information display. Using ESPHome firmware and Home Assistant integration, the device shows real-time weather forecasts, upcoming calendar events, and task lists on its 4.7-inch e-paper screen. The ultra-low power e-ink display means the device can run for extended periods on a single 18650 battery charge.

The project includes a custom 3D-printed PLA enclosure with bronze heated inserts, designed specifically for the T5 Pro board and an 18650 battery holder. The ESPHome YAML configuration handles display rendering with custom fonts and icon mappings, pulling data from Home Assistant template sensors. Deep sleep mode is used between updates to maximize battery life.
