Mind-Controlled Gaming: Build Your Own BCI
Build a brain-computer interface using the BioAmp EXG Pill and Arduino Uno R4 that enables video game control through focus detection and eye blink sensing via EEG and EOG signals.
Overview
This project guides you through building a complete brain-computer interface for gaming. It combines EEG-based focus detection (beta waves at 13-30 Hz) with EOG-based eye blink detection to create a hands-free game controller.
Hardware Required
- BioAmp EXG Pill
- Brain BioAmp Band (or gel electrodes)
- BioAmp Cable v3
- Arduino Uno R4 Minima
- Jumper cables
- Nuprep Skin Preparation Gel
How It Works
The system uses two control mechanisms:
- Focus Detection: Beta wave analysis detects concentration levels for primary game actions
- Double-Blink Detection: EOG signals from eye blinks trigger secondary game actions
The Arduino Uno R4's CMSIS-DSP library handles real-time FFT processing of the brain signals.
What You'll Learn
- Combining EEG and EOG for multi-modal BCI control
- Real-time signal processing with CMSIS-DSP
- Building practical brain-controlled applications
