Sky-Spy: Drone Remote ID Detector
Dual-protocol drone detection firmware for the Oui-Spy that scans WiFi and BLE simultaneously to extract FAA Remote ID telemetry including GPS, altitude, speed, and operator location from up to 8 drones.
Sky-Spy: Drone Remote ID Detector
Sky-Spy is official firmware for the Oui-Spy hardware platform that passively detects and tracks drones broadcasting FAA Remote ID via WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy. The system outputs real-time JSON data for visualization.
Features
- Dual-Protocol Detection: Scans both WiFi promiscuous mode (channel 6) and BLE advertisements simultaneously
- OpenDroneID Support: Extracts drone serial numbers, GPS coordinates, altitude, speed, heading, and operator location
- Multi-Drone Tracking: Monitors up to 8 drones concurrently
- ASTM F3411 Compliant: Supports the standard Remote ID broadcast format
- Audio Alerts: Non-blocking buzzer with detection alerts (1000 Hz) and heartbeat signals (600 Hz every 5 seconds)
- Thread-Safe Architecture: Dedicated FreeRTOS tasks for WiFi processing, BLE scanning, JSON output, and buzzer control across dual cores
Data Output
Transmits JSON via USB serial at 115200 baud containing MAC address, signal strength (RSSI), drone GPS coordinates, altitude, pilot location, and identification data. Compatible with the mesh-mapper.py visualization tool.
Hardware Support
- Primary: Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 or Oui-Spy board
- Alternative: Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-C6 (WiFi 6 and BLE 5.3)
- Passive buzzer connected to GPIO3 with PWM capability
