Oui-Spy Foxhunter: BLE Direction Finder

The Foxhunter firmware transforms the Oui-Spy into a precision BLE proximity tracker for radio direction finding. It functions like a Geiger counter for Bluetooth, providing real-time audio feedback proportional to signal strength as you approach a target device.

How It Works

  1. Power on the device to activate the configuration WiFi network
  2. Access the web portal at 192.168.4.1
  3. Enter a target MAC address
  4. The device enters tracking mode, continuously scanning for BLE signals
  5. Follow the audio-visual feedback to locate the device

Proximity Response Levels

The device provides seven graduated intensity levels:

Level RSSI Range Response
INSANE SPEED -35 to -25 dBm Fastest beeping
VERY FAST -45 to -35 dBm Very rapid beeping
FAST -55 to -45 dBm Fast beeping
MODERATE -65 to -55 dBm Moderate beeping
SLOW -75 to -65 dBm Slow beeping
VERY SLOW -80 to -75 dBm Very slow beeping
PAINFULLY SLOW -85+ dBm Minimal beeping

Features

  • Single MAC address targeting with persistent configuration
  • Independent buzzer and LED controls with toggleable preferences
  • Power-on confirmation via startup beep with LED flash
  • Target acquisition signals (three synchronized beeps and LED flashing)
  • Settings persist across device reboots
  • 16ms scanning intervals with 95% duty cycle for responsive detection

Best With

Pair with an MMCX directional antenna (such as a mini Yagi) for precision direction finding at events and competitions.
