Overview

ConnectedHomeIP (Project CHIP) is the open-source reference implementation of the Matter smart home standard, maintained by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) and contributed to by Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, and hundreds of other companies. It is the foundation upon which all certified Matter devices are built.

The SDK implements the full Matter specification stack: device discovery (mDNS/DNS-SD), commissioning (BLE + network provisioning), cluster model (device types, attributes, commands), transport (UDP/TCP over WiFi, Thread, Ethernet), and security (PASE/CASE, certificates). It supports Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, embedded RTOS targets, and all major microcontroller families.

For open hardware developers, ConnectedHomeIP provides the reference device implementations, test harnesses (PICS/PIXIT), and the Matter test infrastructure used for certification. It is the starting point for anyone building a custom Matter device type not yet covered by existing SDKs.
