Chirp-RPi Python Library for Raspberry Pi
Comprehensive Python library by Göran Lundberg for reading the Chirp I2C soil moisture sensor on Raspberry Pi. Supports calibrated moisture percentage, multiple temperature scales, deep sleep, and I2C address changes.
Firmware:MicroPython
Use Cases:Environmental MonitoringData Logging
Overview
A full-featured Python library for Raspberry Pi that interfaces with the Chirp / Catnip Electronics I2C soil moisture sensor over SMBus. Created by Göran Lundberg (ageir), it provides calibration tools and extensive sensor control.
Features
- Read soil moisture as raw capacitance or calibrated percentage
- Temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin with offset calibration
- Ambient light measurement
- Deep sleep mode for power conservation
- Built-in support for changing the sensor I2C address
- Measurement timestamps for all onboard sensors
- Python 2.6+ compatible
Use Cases
Ideal for headless Raspberry Pi setups that log soil conditions over time, trigger irrigation pumps, or feed data into dashboards and home automation systems.
